Blog Neglected, Bug Blocked

By Des Walsh
Wednesday, August 15th, 2007

It’s a week now since I headed off to be a panelist at the Bloggers Lunch at Microsoft’s TechEd event at the Gold Coast Convention Centre at Broadbeach. I was looking forward to posting here about the experience and the conversation, which for me was both enjoyable and thought-provoking.

But that evening I was hit by what the doctor described a couple of days later as “a bug”. I’m a lot better now than I was a week ago, so the bug has been blocked if not totally defeated. But my blogging has suffered. Having been warned by the doc that I had to make sure I did not develop pneumonia , I decided the work ethic could join me in having a good rest. And anyway, at that point even sitting up in bed to blog was not a realistic option.

Regrettably, I did not have a backup supply of pre-written posts, one of the measures included by Darren Rowse in his list of eight tips for what to do when you are sick, or in terms of having something ready in advance, before you get sick. Something to bear in mind for the future.

About the Bloggers’ Lunch panel at TechEd, Long Zheng blogged it live with some seriously good photography of all the panel and individual members. Nick Hodge blogged it live too and captured the conversation very impressively, imho.

Joining the Panel for Blogger Lunch at TechEd

By Des Walsh
Tuesday, August 7th, 2007

I’ve not been alone in wondering about the usefulness of Twitter – Next Big Thing, The New Blogging, Complete and Utter Waste of Time??? – but I’ve just had a nice outcome, courtesy of keen user, Microsoft blogger Frank Arrigo.

When I noticed on Twitter that Frank was at the Microsoft TechEd event at Broadbeach, about a 25 minute drive from me, I suggested a coffee. Frank went one better and got me onto the panel for the Bloggers Lunch tomorrow at TechEd.

Neato!

The subject for the panel Web 2.0 and Social Networking:

  • What is Web 2.0?
  • Does it deserve the hype that surrounds it?
  • What does it mean for traditional media outlets?
  • What does it mean for societal communications?
  • Impacts on privacy, online safety etc?
  • The impact for technology professionals?

Love it!
I’m assured it’s going to be highly interactive.

Coffee would have been nice. This will be even better.

I think I might get to really like Twitter.
