Eye Contact - A Clue to Ownership

By Des Walsh | Apr 8, 2005

On Saturday I went to the mall to buy a printer cartridge at the electronics store. The young guy was keen to serve me, alert, attentive, processed the credit card, gave me the bag with the item in it, said ‘Thanks’ in an offhand way and looked somewhere off to the left. Maybe he was looking for another customer, maybe he was bored.

I figured he was not the owner.

(Publisher’s note: Somehow, most of the original of this post disappeared in the process of being posted. I’ve done my best to spell out the fuller story in a later post, More on Eye Contact and Ownership: Des).

Des, not a surprise, Like I tell everyone, one bad review can deep sink (insert business here). I hope to not make those same mistakes as the salesperson in that store you went too. Of course, the only person I can blame is myself if it happens on my blog. Talk about accountability.
