"Leadership is a decision, not a position" (my words)
By this I mean, anyone can lead, and the question becomes, “lead where?”. A person can become a leader by leading people out of a crisis (Kennedy, Guilliani, Churchill, etc.), but I believe the mark of a true leader is one who can lead not just in a crisis, but also when there is no crisis. For that, to be a leader, you must have a ‘big idea’ that others will support and pursue (follow). Some notable examples include Richard Branson, Herb Kelleher, Jack Welch, Michael Dell, Fred Smith (FedEx).

Thanks Carlos
Napoleon Bonaparte and leadership would make a whole blog or book or several. I have to say I never saw Napoleon's leadership in the same light after I'd read War and Peace.

Recommended reading...

"Fire Them Up" by Carmine Gallo of Gallo Communications.

Carmine is a journalist/author who interviewed CEOs to discover how they came upon their leadership qualities.

He quotes Napoleon Bonaparte..."A leader is a dealer of hope".
