“Fire Them Up” by Carmine Gallo of Gallo Communications.
Carmine is a journalist/author who interviewed CEOs to discover how they came upon their leadership qualities.
He quotes Napoleon Bonaparte…”A leader is a dealer of hope”.
Thanks Carlos
Napoleon Bonaparte and leadership would make a whole blog or book or several. I have to say I never saw Napoleon’s leadership in the same light after I’d read War and Peace.
“Leadership is a decision, not a position” (my words)
By this I mean, anyone can lead, and the question becomes, “lead where?”. A person can become a leader by leading people out of a crisis (Kennedy, Guilliani, Churchill, etc.), but I believe the mark of a true leader is one who can lead not just in a crisis, but also when there is no crisis. For that, to be a leader, you must have a ‘big idea’ that others will support and pursue (follow). Some notable examples include Richard Branson, Herb Kelleher, Jack Welch, Michael Dell, Fred Smith (FedEx).
