Whenever I speak about business blogging, at conferences or with groups, I include reference to the fact that there is a significant number of Fortune 500 companies blogging, as well as small businesses and even solo businesses.
Up till now I’ve been relying on a list that was compiled early last year. I’d forgotten until today, when I was doing a search and making some discoveries and re-discoveries that there is a better, frequently updated source, the Fortune 500 Companies Business Blogging Wiki.
This wiki site is a directory of Fortune 500 companies that have business blogs, defined as: active public blogs by company employees about the company and/or its products.
According to site developers’ research, 29 (5.8%) of the Fortune 500 are blogging as of april 18 this year.
Unlike other lists of Fortune 500 companies blogging that I’ve seen, and used in presentations, this is not just a list of companies, but includes sample blogs from the companies: for example, Cisco is listed and then the Cisco High Tech Policy Blog – http://blogs.cisco.com/gov/ and when I clicked on that I read a very interesting post by Cisco CEO John Chambers, quoting from British Prime Minister Tony Blair – see Why Tony Blair gets It when it comes to tech Chambers had been at a Silicon Valley gathering with Blair as guest.
