News release on main page

By Des Walsh | Feb 25, 2006

I had a dilemma about the news release I’ve just reproduced as a post here. I wanted to have it on the site, mainly in the hope that it would get picked up by search engines etc. I would have preferred just having it under a separate category - i.e. News Releases - but not on the main page. However, after fiddling a bit with the controls and checking the user manual, I suspect that’s not feasible.

So if anyone thinks it’s a bit twee having a news release, in which I am quoted, on the main page of the blog, I agree.

Can’t see how I can change it now, without deleting and re-posting, which I don’t see as an appropriate action.

    I don’t think it’s particularly strange…

No need for that, you just need to go to your Control Panel to edit this article. Look at the Category list at the right under Article Options. Currently you’ve checked 2 categories, so the article appears in Main Page and News Releases. Uncheck Main Page. Now look beneath that list for the Bubble up to higher categories checkbox. Uncheck it, or else the article will “bubble up” automatically and appear on its parent categories. Click Save and you’re done.

That’s it. More info on using Categories and organizing posts with Categories.

Thanks for the clarification. Noting your comment, I may just leave the item on the Main page :)

What’s strange about putting a press release about some work that you’ve released more widely on the front page of your own blog? Isn’t that the whole essence of a blog that its a compliation of your thoughts, comments and work. Hey, its hard enough to write a book in the first place, Des, kick back, anf enjoy the moment as long as possible.
