A Long Wait for WordPress.com Domain Mapping

by Des Walsh on January 24, 2006

It’s three months now since the FAQ site for WordPress.com advised that they were “definitely planning” to add the feature that would enable users of this currently free service to have their own domain names pointing to their sites. They don’t indicate what the anticipated annual fee for this service would be. I know I pay an ISP host a nominal $15 dollars or so as a one-off payment to direct a domain to one of my sites.

I really would like to be able to recommend WordPress.com to people who want a blog but are not currently attracted to paying a monthly fee or don’t have the skills or desire to set up their own site with, say, WordPress.org . But I guess I’ll just have to wait till “definitely planning” becomes “now available”.

Don’t you just hate it when they do that. I wish they would not announce anything until they are closer to getting it out. Although I do try to get all of my clients to go to Wordpress.org
