Be Seen, Get Known

By Des Walsh | Oct 19, 2004

My friend Robyn Henderson, the international networking specialist, wrote an excellent book with the title that said it all about networking for business - ‘Be Seen, Get Known, Move Ahead’. Internet expert, Paul Colligan, has lately been using the phrase “I’ve Seen You Out There” which he abbreviates to ISYOT.

The internet is a vast marketplace so from one point of view it’s easy to get lost. However, if you get focused on the kind of people you want to communicate with and offer them something that makes their lives better, their businesses more profitable, then there is much more scope to get known by and appreciated by a much larger number of people.

By blogging regularly, building websites, being involved in forums, I expect to build a bigger network of people than if I just go to networking breakfasts within half an hour’s drive from where I live - and I will do that too.

I like the idea that people will start to recognise me as having something worthwhile to offer and will say, approvingly, ISYOT :) I’m not blogging for that - I do like it as a prospective benefit of the process.
